Second-half goals from John Cleary and Matt Bowes propelled Garnet Valley to a 3-1 Central League win over Strath Haven.
Bowes assisted on Ethan Hensinger’s tally midway through the first half. The Jags received strong goalkeeping from Chase Woolard, who made 12 saves.
In nonleague action:
Christian Academy 7, Avon Grove Charter 1 >> The Crusaders scored five unannwered goals after falling behind 1-0 in the opening half. Evan Sareyka led the charge with a first-half hat trick, needing only five shots to accomplish the feat. Jesse Brittain ended TCA’s opening half surge with a pair of tallies.
Caleb Chambers found the back of the net off a 20-yard free kick and freshman Noah Gray completed the scoring for TCA by finishing a cross from the left side. Chambers added two assists and goalkeeper Sam Geathers notched a pair of saves.
Haverford School 3, Hill School 1 >> Asher Laackman scored the first and third goals of the day for the Fords. The Fords got on the board first with a cross by Luke Macaione that was volleyed home by Laackman, a sophomore striker.
After Hill evened the score, junior Zach Seaman put the Fords in front in the second half, converting a pass from Macaione. Freshman Papi Harris was credited with the assist on Laackman’ second tally.
Blake Groff (four saves) and Michael Wong (six) were excellent between the pipes for Haverford.
Girls Soccer
Kiley Mottice had two goals and an assist in Archbishop Carroll’s 5-0 Catholic League victory over John W. Hallahan.
Emma Talago had a goal and two assists for the Patriots (9-8, 5-5). Nicollette Cashin registered her seventh shutout of the season with three saves. Keri Barnett and Reagan Duzy each chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Conwell-Egan 5, Cardinal O’Hara 1 >> Laura Evangelist scored in the second half for the Lions. Natalia Capacio was busy in net and finished with 19 saves.
In the Central League:
Springfield 3, Harriton 0 >> Coryn Silberstein scored in the early minutes of regulation on a pass from Eva Hennessey and the Cougars were on the way to their 10th win of the season. Alyssa Long and Lexi Chairalone also scored and goalie Shannon Cutcliff made four saves to post the shutout.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 3, Oxford 1 >> Sam Hoy, Jackie Oldham and Chiara Robinson all found the back of the net for the Vanguards, who did all of their scoring in the first half. Holly Damm turned aside eight shots to register the shutout in net.
In nonleague action:
Notre Dame 2, Merion Mercy 0 >> Abby Butler and Izzy Casale had the goals for the Irish.
